I started writing this a few weeks ago but got delayed with the organization for this week’s Thanksgiving luncheon we’re having. My daughter said she’d bring the turkey – which is fine, but this better not be some joke about her husband. And now I have a recipe with wild rice the family wants to try. I dunno – rice isn’t exactly what I associate with Thanksgiving.
There wasn’t much going on at the Mitchell house this year, except we invited my former graduate assistant, Myron, to spend the day. He did some sort of trick to amuse the grandkids by sticking olives on the ends of his fingers. I didn’t get it. I did check out some of Marcy’s Thanksgiving Parade, though. Does anyone here remember some of the original balloons? Felix the Cat? Harold the Barrel? The two-headed pirate? I'm not really up for the new characters. It's sort of a grand parade of lifeless product placement. (The grandkids liked this more than the olives, so they're mostly normal.) No sign of the tree, though.
I guess I’d better start in on that Christmas shopping. It’ll probably be books for everyone this year. As a joke, I hope, Myron did say he wanted a glass armonica. I think I’ll get him an air guitar instead. It’s cheaper, and he won’t have to cough up much for lessons. Enjoy the rest of your year.
